Our Surgeons
Jon Benner, M.D. is a graduate of Yale University and USC School of Medicine and completed his residency in General and Vascular Surgery at the University of Michigan in 1980. He is Board Certified in General Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He has been practicing general and vascular surgery in Monterey since 1980.
Jeffrey Hyde, M.D. completed his undergraduate education at University of Oregon, medical school at the University of Southern California, and completed his residency at USC/LostAngeles County Medical Center in 1978.    Following residency he entered private practice in Southern California and was on the faculty at USC.  He is Board Certified in General Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.  He has been with the practice since 1991.
Michael Lurie, M.D. is a graduate of the University of Michigan and University of Chicago Medical School and completed his residency in Surgery at Rhode Island Hospital in 1977.  He is Board Certified in General Surgery.  He has been with the practice since 1996.
Lane Verlenden, M.D. is a graduate of the University of North Carolina and Harvard Medical School and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at UCSF in 1974 and his residency in Surgery at UC Davis in 1984. He is Board Certified in General Surgery and fellowship trained in Vascular Surgery.  He has been with the practice since 1984 and he is a fellow of the American College of surgeons.
Mark Vierra, M.D. is a graduate of University of California San Diego and Harvard Medical School and completed his residency in Surgery at Stanford University in 1990.  He joined the Stanford University faculty in 1990, and practiced there until 2001, when he joined the current practice.   He is Board Certified in General Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.  He is married to Kathryn Swanson, MD, a gastroenterologist with GI Consultants in Monterey
Michael Stuntz M.D. completed his undergraduate education at Denison University in Ohio, medical school at the University of Arizona, and his surgical residency at Harbor/UCLA Medical Center in 1998. Following residency he completed a surgical oncology fellowship also at Harbor/UCLA.

He has been in practice in the Monterey Bay area since 1999 and joined our practice in 2008.
